Dr Elise R. Facer-Childs is a STEM+ Business Fellow at Monash University's Turner Institute for Brain and Mental Health. Her expertise is in sleep, chronobiology and performance with a particular focus on individual differences. Prior to this she was a Translational Fellow in Industry at Monash University after previously holding a Wellcome Trust fellowship at the Centre for Human Brain Health (UoB, UK). In 2017 she completed her PhD in applied circadian neurobiology at University of Birmingham, UK.
Dr Facer-Childs has worked with elite athletes, clinical populations and the general public to help increase our understanding of how sleep and biological clocks impact the brain, health and subsequent performance. She has presented at national and international conferences, as well as showing a clear passion for communicating and disseminating her work to wider audiences outside academia. Her research has been showcased across the globe highlighting the clear importance and relevance of this area for our society.
In 2019, Dr Facer-Childs was recruited to Monash University to develop relationships within the elite sports industry and successfully received further funding through an Innovation Connections grant. In 2020, Dr Facer-Childs was awarded a prestigious CSIRO Fellowship funded through SIEF to develop her research program in Sleep, Chronobiology and Performance. She currently works with industry partners in elite sports organisations including the AFL, NRL and NBL, helping top professional athletes and teams translate research findings into tangible benefits.
