Nicole L. Golden is a Ph.D. student in Biological Sciences from the Department of Biomedical and Chemical Engineering and Sciences at Florida Tech, where she also received her undergraduate and master’s degrees.
After receiving her undergraduate degree (2006-2010) in Science Education, she taught junior and senior high school science with Brevard Public Schools for 5 years. While teaching AP Biology, she became interested in conducting primary research. Nicole went on to receive a master’s degree (2014-2015) in Biotechnology and worked as a Research Assistant at Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Research Institute in Dr. Muthu Periasamy’s lab (2016-2017). At SBP, she used genetically engineered mouse models to better understand how Sarcolipin regulates the Ca2+-ATPase, SERCA.
Nicole has always had a deep interest in the study of epigenetics, which led to her current research in Dr. Eric Guisbert’s lab. Her most recent work focuses on investigating how chromatin remodeling complexes like the NuRD complex can influence induction of stress responses in C. elegans.
Outside of research, Nicole enjoys surfing, snowboarding, running ultra-marathons, and rock climbing in Yosemite with her husband.
