Originally from Anchorage, Alaska, Rebecca MacPherson graduated from Clemson University summa cum laude in 2018 with a B.S. in Genetics and minors in Microbiology and Psychology. She worked on a variety of research projects in her undergraduate years, including canine genetics, eukaryotic pathogens, synthetic biology, and cancer biology. She is currently progressing towards her Ph.D. in genetics at Clemson University under Dr. Trudy Mackay at the Clemson Center for Human Genetics. One of her projects involves studying the effects of genetic background on transcriptional response to developmental ethanol exposure in Drosophila melanogaster.
In addition to her work in the laboratory, Rebecca volunteers with the Greenwood Genetic Center Education Department and is passionate about teaching genetics to members of the local community.
