This video demonstrates the method of inducing chronic stress in a mouse through repeated immobilization, leading to corticosterone release and reduced glutamate receptor activity in neurons, which results in depression-like behavior.
All procedures involving animal models have been reviewed by the local institutional animal care committee and the JoVE veterinary review board.
1. Induction of depression by CIS restraint
NOTE: Handle the mouse gently but firmly with confidence. Rough and tentative handling is another stress factor in the experiment, and it is important for the mouse's struggling, biting, and scratching.
