Use of Time Lapse Microscopy to Visualize Anoxia-induced Suspended Animation in C. elegans Embryos
Anastacia M. Garcia 1, Mary L. Ladage 1, Pamela A. Padilla 1
1Department of Biological Sciences, University of North Texas

Described here is an in vivo technique to image sub-cellular structures in animals exposed to anoxia using a gas flow through microincubation chamber in conjunction with a spinning disc confocal microscope. This method is straightforward and flexible enough to suit a variety of experimental parameters and model systems.

Image-based Flow Cytometry Technique to Evaluate Changes in Granulocyte Function In Vitro
Brian K. McFarlin 1, Adam S. Venable 1, Eric A. Prado 1, Andrea L. Henning 1, Randall R. Williams 1
1Applied Physiology Laboratory, University of North Texas

This method demonstrates a technique for assessing granulocyte function by simultaneously measuring phagocytosis of bacteria and oxidative burst. Image-based flow cytometry allowed for the identification of three distinct subsets of activated granulocytes that all differed in their relative functional capacity.

We report a protocol for combining the atomic metrology of the Scanning Tunneling Microscope for surface patterning with selective Atomic Layer Deposition and Reactive Ion Etching. Using a robust process involving numerous atmospheric exposures and transport, 3D nanostructures with atomic metrology are fabricated.

Indirect Fabrication of Lattice Metals with Thin Sections Using Centrifugal Casting
Jiwon Mun 1, Jaehyung Ju 1, James Thurman 2
1Department of Mechanical and Energy Engineering, University of North Texas, 2Department of Studio Art, University of North Texas

An indirect additive manufacturing method combining a 3D printing of polymers with a centrifugal casting is outlined for manufacturing 3D octet truss metals (Al and Cu alloys) having a unit cell length of 5 mm with a wall thickness of 0.5 mm.

Gathering Self-Initiated Rat Behavioral Data to Characterize Post-Stroke Deficits
Jared Armshaw *1, Grayson Butcher *1, April Becker 1
1Department of Behavior Analysis, College of Health and Public Service, University of North Texas

A system for acquiring data from self-initiated individual behavior sessions within a social colony cage setting is presented. The efficacy of this system is demonstrated using an automated skilled reach assessment, enabling the characterization of post-stroke motor impairments, potential behavioral alterations related to motivation, circadian variations, and other innovative dependent variables.
