Carlos Miguel Marto is a teaching fellow at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Coimbra, since 2011. He obtained a master's degree in Dentistry in 2011, followed by Postgraduate Studies in Biomedical Research (2013), Advanced Specialization Course in Heath Sciences (2013), and Postgraduate studies in Acupuncture in Dentistry (2014). He is currently a Ph.D. student in Health Sciences at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Coimbra.
Dr. Marto's work was mainly focused on dental materials, with in vitro and in vivo studies focusing on cytotoxicity, physical properties, and regeneration capacity. More recently, he is working on stem cells applied to oral tissues regeneration, using induced pluripotent stem cells and a mouse animal model. At the same time, Dr. Marto is interested in cancer research, from cancer stem cells to oral cancer and new therapeutics.
His work is developed at Coimbra Institute for Clinical and Biomedical Research (iCBR) and Centre for Innovative Biomedicine and Biotechnology (CIBB), a multidisciplinary biomedical research center in Portugal, affiliated with Coimbra University.
