We present a protocol for the synthesis of C5 sugars (xylose and arabinose) from a renewable non-edible lignocellulosic biomass (i.e., jute) with the presence of Brønsted acidic ionic liquids (BAILs) as the catalyst in water. The BAILs catalyst exhibited better catalytic performance than conventional mineral acid catalysts (H2SO4 and HCl).

Electrocardiogram Recordings in Anesthetized Mice using Lead II
Tae Woong Ha 1, Bermseok Oh *1, Ji-One Kang *1
1Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, School of Medicine, Kyung Hee University

We present an ECG protocol that is technically easy, inexpensive, fast, and affordable in small mice, and can be performed with enhanced sensitivity. We suggest this method as a screening approach for studying pharmacological agents, genetic modifications, and disease models in mice.

Isolation of Epithelial Cells from Human Dental Follicle
Hyosun Jung 1, Jin-Kyu Yi 1,2
1Department of Conservative Dentistry, Kyung Hee University Dental Hospital at Gangdong, 2Department of Conservative Dentistry, School of Dentistry, Kyung Hee University

The dental follicle contains an epithelial population and mesenchymal cells. The epithelial population was selected from the heterogeneous dental follicle cell population by providing a distinct culture medium. Epithelial cells survived and formed colonies in a serum-free medium.

T. Still University, 4Graduate School of Dentistry, Kyung Hee University

A process of registering cone-beam computed tomography scans and digital dental images has been presented using artificial intelligence (AI) -assisted identification of landmarks and merging. A comparison with surface-based registration shows that AI-based digitization and integration are reliable and reproducible.
