Department of Medical Education
Dr. Ahmed is a Professor of Emergency Medicine, Medical Simulation Fellowship Director, and Associate Director of Simulation in the school of Interprofessional Education.
Dr. Ahmed completed his undergraduate degree at John Carroll University and completed his medical school training at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. During college and medical school Dr. Ahmed served as a combat medic in the U.S. Army Reserves. He completed his residency in emergency medicine at Summa Akron City Hospital in Akron, OH. He then went on to complete his medical simulation fellowship at Harvard Medical School and his masters in health professions education (MHPE) at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
He returned back to Summa Akron City Hospital after his fellowship to become the simulation medical director where he started the first medical simulation fellowship in the state of Ohio. He developed a nationally recognized simulation program in the 9 years he served in that role, graduated 10 simulation fellows, served as a consultant for NASA on simulation related projects, co-developed a novel transvenous pacemaker simulator, and published numerous simulation related research studies.
Dr. Ahmed was the recipient of the Donald O’Hara teaching award at Harvard Medical School in 2009, Emergency Medicine residency faculty of the year for the Akron City Emergency Medicine residency program in 2010 and 2012, and was awarded the 2017 ACEP National Faculty Teaching Award. Dr. Ahmed is passionate about training emergency medicine residents into highly effective team leaders.
