Dr. Basil E. Grüter is an MD and consultant in neurosurgery. His medical studies at the Universities of Fribourg (CH) and Bern (CH) were supplemented by a 1-year full-time research fellowship at the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences at the University of Oxford (UK) where he wrote his doctoral thesis on cerebral small vessel disease. After his first year of residency at the Neuroradiological Department at the University Hospital of Zürich (Prof. Valavanis) he started his neurosurgical training at Kantonsspital Aarau (Prof. Fandino) and completed his final stage of residency again at the Neurosurgical Department at the University Hospital of Zürich (Prof. Regli).
Dr. Grüter has authored multiple studies on clinical aspects of cerebrovascular disease. In addition, his research interest includes basic science and translational projects on aneurysm wall biology, subarachnoid haemorrhage, and endovascular device development in an experimental setting.
