Jan Wollenhaupt is a postdoc in the Macromolecular Crystallography group at the BESSY II synchrotron.
He achieved his PhD in biochemistry at the Free University Berlin. There he studied protein-RNA complexes via X-ray crystallography and complementary biophysical techniques in the lab of Markus Wahl and first came in touch with crystallographic fragment screening (CFS). He then became a postdoc in the synchrotron MX group of Manfred Weiss at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin and gained additional experience in the drug design group of Gerhard Klebe in Marburg. Jan Wollenhaupt's research focus is on improvement on CFS workflows, advancing of fragment hits to higher potency as well as on modulation of protein-protein interactions. At the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin, he is responsible for the support of CFS user campaigns.
