Econometric Views, often stylized as EViews, is a package that merges statistical analysis with econometric studies. It is designed to provide tools for time series analysis, forecasting, and econometric model simulation. The software originated from MicroTSP software and has evolved significantly since its inception in 1981. The history of EViews is marked by a continuous effort to enhance its computational speed and user interface. It was initially developed for large computing systems but was adapted for personal computers running on early Windows systems. It was tailored for academics, government agencies, and corporations, offering an object-oriented interface for ease of use.

EViews stands out for its capabilities in econometrics, which is the application of statistical methods to economic data for forecasting and testing hypotheses. Econometrics bridges the gap between theory and empirical data that reflects complex economic realities. In the financial sector, for example, EViews is used to forecast market trends, analyze time series data, and model economic relationships. A specific application could be in analyzing stock market volatility, where EViews facilitates the estimation of models like GARCH to understand and predict the variance in stock prices over time. EViews 13, the latest iteration at the time of documentation, introduces advanced features like Bayesian Time-varying Coefficient Vector Autoregression and Non-linear ARDL Estimation, enhancing its utility in complex econometric analysis. It also supports modern needs with improved data handling capabilities, integration with Jupyter Notebooks, and an alternative user interface. The software has significantly influenced econometric analysis by simplifying complex modeling and making econometric methods more accessible to a wider audience. Its evolution reflects the advancing needs of its users and the growing complexity of economic data analysis.
