Soil Core Sample Collection for Water Retention Property Analysis

-- views • 1:09 min

Transcript

Identify a sampling area and clear any debris from the surface.

Remove the top crust of the soil to ensure an accurate analysis of the soil core.

Position a sampling ring with its sharp edge facing down on the soil surface.

Place a hammering holder on top of the sampling ring.

Using a rubber mallet, gently tap the holder to minimize sample compaction. Level the ring with the soil surface.

Dig around and, using a shovel, carefully lift the soil core along with the sampling ring.

Remove soil from the ring’s exterior.

Using a trowel, level the soil at both ends of the ring and seal them with plastic covers to prevent contamination and moisture loss.

Label and wrap the ring to ensure the sample remains undisturbed.

Place the sample in a plastic bag and then in a cooler to transport it undisturbed for soil water retention analysis.
