After medical education and training with honors, Ronald devoted his career to medical research in Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). Ronald conducted clinical and medical research in Prince of Wales Hospital, CUHK, Hong Kong and Westmead Hospital, University of Sydney, Australia, and was awarded PhD degree in Surgical Science with distinction.

Ronald held international scholarships and awards from Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst and Japan Society for the Promotion of Science for his postdoctoral training in molecular biology, genetics and bioinformatics at Humboldt University zü Berlin in Germany, National Institute of Genetics in Japan, and University of Oxford in UK; and also from Roche, International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine, American Association for Clinical Chemistry, Human Genome Organisation, Asian-Pacific Federation of Clinical Biochemists, European Societies for Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine, International Society for Immunology of Reproduction, International Federation of Placental Associations and Society for Gynecologic Investigation for his professional development in clinical biochemistry and molecular pathology in preeclampsia. Ronald also received visiting professorship to Children’s Medical Research Institute at University of Sydney in Australia for embryology research; Jackson Laboratory in United State and The 21st Century COE Programme, Chromosome Engineering Technology in Japan for stem cell research; Cochrane Pregnancy and Childbirth Group in Oxford for systematic reviews; and University of Oxford in Oxford and Harvard Medical School in Boston for endometriosis research. Lately Ronald develop his interest in medical genetics, establish Prenatal Genetics Diagnosis Centre, and was honored with a Ronpaku Fellowship to obtain his second PhD degree in Genetics with distinction.

Ronald had published over 25 book chapters, 120 peer-reviewed papers and 250 conference abstracts on many acclaimed journals including Gene Dev, Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A, Hum Reprod Update, Angiogenesis, Cell Research, J Biol Chem, Free Radical Biol Med, Mol Hum Reprod, Hum Reprod, and Fertil Steril. His success in fetal medicine research has earned him multiple local and international scholarships and awards. He was appointed to the editorial boards and review panels of many important research funding agents and journals.
