Ectropis obliqua picorna-like virus (EoPV) is an insect RNA virus that causes a lethal granulosis infection of larvae of the tea looper (Ectropis obliqua). An internal ribosome entry site (IRES) mediates translation initiation of EoPV RNA. Here, bicistronic constructs were used to examine the 5' untranslated region (UTR) of EoPV for IRES activity. The capacities of the EoPV 5' UTR IRES and another insect virus IRES, the cricket paralysis virus intergenic region IRES, to mediate internal translation initiation in a variety of translation systems were also compared. The results demonstrated that the EoPV IRES functioned efficiently not only in mammalian cell-derived systems, but also in an insect cell-derived translation system. However, it functioned inefficiently in a plant cell-derived translation system. This study reveals the host preferences of the EoPV IRES and important differences in IRES function between the EoPV IRES and other characterized picorna-like insect viral IRESs.

Ectropis obliqua picorna-like virus (EoPV) est un insecte de virus &agrave; ARN qui provoque une infection mortelle granulosis chez les larves de la fausse-arpenteuse du th&eacute; (Ectropis obliqua). Un site d&#39;entr&eacute;e de ribosome interne (IRES) intervient dans l&#39;initiation de la traduction de l&#39;ARN EoPV. Ici, les constructions bicistronique ont servi &agrave; &eacute;tudier la r&eacute;gion 5&#39; non traduite (UTR) de EoPV pour l&#39;activit&eacute; de l&#39;IRES. Ectropis obliqua por picornavirus-como virus (EoPV) es un insecto de virus de ARN que causa una infecci&oacute;n letal granulosis de larvas de la lanzadera de t&eacute; (Ectropis obliqua). Un sitio de entrada interna del ribosoma (IRES) media de iniciaci&oacute;n de la traducci&oacute;n del ARN EoPV. Aqu&iacute;, bicistronic construcciones fueron utilizadas para examinar el 5&#39; regi&oacute;n sin traducir (UTR) de EoPV para la actividad de IRES. Tambi&eacute;n se compararon las capacidades de la EoPV 5&#39; UTR IRES y otro virus de insectos IRES, la regi&oacute;n interg&eacute;nica virus IRES, de cricket par&aacute;lisis para mediar la iniciaci&oacute;n de la traducci&oacute;n interno en una variedad de sistemas de traducci&oacute;n. Toxoplasmosis is an important parasitic disease worldwide and is related to certain psychiatric disorders and sterility. In the present study, serum samples from 882 female sterility patients and 107 pregnant-puerperant women were assayed for anti- T. gondii IgG antibodies using ELISA. The overall T. gondii seroprevalence was 14.8%. In the female sterility patients, 15.9% (140/882) were seropositive and, in the pregnant-puerperant women, 5.6% (6/107) were positive for anti- T. gondii IgG antibodies. There was a significant difference between the 2 groups ( P < 0.05). The samples were further divided into 5 groups based on age, but no significant difference was found among the 5 groups (P > 0.05). Results of the present study argue for more attention to prevention of T. gondii infection in the female population and, in particular, women of childbearing age.

We present a case report of secondary vaginal cancer after complete hysterectomy due to myoma that was complicated by low-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN I) and human papilloma virus (HPV) infection. After complete hysterectomy, the HPV DNA level in the vaginal tissue was obviously increased, and vaginal cancer was diagnosed 6 months later. We conclude that HPV infection can cause vaginal cancer after complete hysterectomy in cases complicated by CIN. Therefore, HPV should be regularly assessed during the postoperative follow-up period.
