Samantha Cobos is a current student in the Ph.D. Program in Chemistry at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. She received her undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Pace University.
Ms. Cobos’ background mainly focused on investigating the binding kinetics at the interface of proteins and other small organic molecules. During her undergraduate career, she worked in the lab of Dr. Demos Athanasopoulos where she worked on molecular dynamics simulations calculating the intrinsic reaction coordinate of Diels-Alder like reactions. Additionally, with the help of Dr. Shishir Chundawat of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, she was able to further advance the labs work into the binding kinetics of cellulose I and Cellulose I-based glycan-active enzymes.
Currently Ms. Cobos is interested in how protein structure and misfolding affects disease pathology in the lab of Dr. Mariana Torrente at Brooklyn College.
