Dr. Gorochowski was awarded a Master of Engineering degree from the University of Warwick, UK, followed by a Master of Research in Complexity Sciences and a PhD in Engineering Mathematics from the University of Bristol, UK. His postdoctoral research involved training in molecular biology techniques as a Marie Curie Fellowship within the DSM Biotechnology Center in the Netherlands where he studied the principles of efficient protein expression in bacteria using synthetic biology methods. Following this, he joined the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA as a Postdoctoral Associate in Prof. Christopher Voigt’s group where he worked in close collaboration with the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard to develop novel sequencing technologies for bioengineering applications. In 2016, he returned to the University of Bristol to establish an independent research group within the Bristol Centre for Synthetic Biology (BrisSynBio) and was awarded a Royal Society University Research Fellowship in 2017. He joined the faculty of the School of Biological Sciences in 2019.
His research aims to better understand the computational architecture of biological systems from the molecular to ecosystem level by developing new experimental and computational tools to enable the rational engineering of new functionalities across these scales.
