Dr. Howe is Professor of Surgery and Division Director of Surgical Oncology and Endocrine Surgery at the University of Iowa. He trained at Washington University and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. His clinical practice is in general Surgical Oncology and Endocrine Surgery with special emphasis on small bowel NETs, pancreatic NETs, and cytoreduction of liver metastases. He is currently the Chair of the North American Neuroendocrine Tumor Society (NANETS) and President-Elect of the Society of Surgical Oncology. His basic science research is dedicated to understanding the molecular genetic basis of familial cancer syndromes, gene expression patterns in neuroendocrine tumors (NETs), and development of new therapeutics. He has written numerous clinical and basic science articles on the subject of NETs.
