The motility of Xenopus sperm is initiated by the osmotic shock experienced when these cells are ejaculated into low-salinity pond water. Motility is brief and is required for the sperm to penetrate the jelly layers and fertilize the egg. In this study we demonstrate that extracts of egg jelly contain factors that extend the period of sperm motility as well as providing a chemoattractant activity as previously reported. Both activities are partially dependent on extracellular calcium. Time-lapse and video microscopy show that after activation of motility the number of motile sperm decreases rapidly, with a half-time of about 2 min. Addition of 10% v/v egg jelly extract ("egg water") increased the number of motile sperm 2-fold over controls at 20 s and about 4- to 10-fold over controls at 10 min after initiation of motility. Extension of motility lifetime was not mediated by a nonspecific protein or by allurin, the egg-water protein that has chemoattractant activity. The helical path of Xenopus sperm exhibited tight coupling between rotational and forward velocities in egg jelly, but coupling changed rapidly from moment to moment in low-salinity buffer. Our observations suggest that jelly-derived factors regulate both the longevity and directionality of sperm propulsion.

La motilit&#xE9; des spermatozo&#xEF;des de Xenopus est initi&#xE9;e par le choc osmotique connu lorsque ces cellules sont &#xE9;jacul&#xE9; dans l&#x26;#39;eau du bassin de faible salinit&#xE9;. Nos observations sugg&#xE8;rent que la gel&#xE9;e facteurs d&#xE9;riv&#xE9;s de r&#xE9;guler &#xE0; la fois la long&#xE9;vit&#xE9; et la directivit&#xE9; de la propulsion du sperme.

Die Motilit&auml;t der Spermien Xenopus wird durch den osmotischen Schock erfahrenen initiiert, wenn diese Zellen in niedrigen Salzgehalt Teichwasser ejakuliert werden. Motilit&auml;t ist kurz und ist erforderlich f&uuml;r die Spermien durchdringen die Gelee-Schichten und das Ei befruchten. In dieser Studie zeigen wir, dass Extrakte von Ei Jelly Faktoren enthalten, die die Spermien-Motilit&auml;t sowie eine Chemoattractant-Aktivit&auml;t wie bereits berichtet verl&auml;ngern. Beide T&auml;tigkeiten sind extrazellul&auml;re Kalzium teilweise abh&auml;ngig. Zeitraffer und video Mikroskopie zeigen, dass nach der Aktivierung der Motilit&auml;t, die die Anzahl der bewegliche Spermien rapide sinkt, mit einer halb-Zeit von ca. 2 min. Zugabe von 10 % V/V Ei Gelee extrahieren (&quot;Ei-Wasser&quot;) stieg die Zahl der bewegliche Spermien 2-fach &uuml;ber Steuerelemente bei 20 s und ca. 4 - bis 10 - 8-fach &uuml;ber Steuerelemente um 10 Minuten nach Beginn der Motilit&auml;t. Verl&auml;ngerung der Lebensdauer der Motilit&auml;t wurde nicht vermittelt, indem eine unspezifische Protein oder allurin, das Ei-Wasser-Protein, das Chemoattractant Aktivit&auml;t hat. Der spiralf&ouml;rmige Pfad Xenopus Sperma ausgestellt enge Kopplung zwischen Rotations- und forward Geschwindigkeiten in ei-Gelee, aber Kupplung ver&auml;nderten rasch von Moment zu Moment in niedrig-Salzgehalt-Puffer. Unsere Beobachtungen legen nahe, dass Gelee abgeleiteten Faktoren die Langlebigkeit und die Direktionalit&auml;t Sperma Antrieb regulieren.

La motilidad de los espermatozoides de Xenopus es iniciada por el choque osm&#xF3;tico experimentado cuando estas c&#xE9;lulas se eyaculado en agua del estanque de baja salinidad. La motilidad es breve y es necesario para que el espermatozoide penetre las capas de gelatina y fertilizar el &#xF3;vulo. En este estudio hemos demostrado que los extractos de huevo mermelada contienen factores que ampl&#xED;an el per&#xED;odo de la motilidad del esperma, as&#xED; como proporcionar una actividad quimiot&#xE1;ctica como se inform&#xF3; anteriormente. Ambas actividades son parcialmente dependiente de calcio extracelular.
