Benajmin Cole is a Research Scientist at the DOE-Joint Genome Institute. He received his Bachelor of Science at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and his Ph.D in the laboratory of Dr. Joanne Chory at the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Cole then pursued postdoctoral work in the laboratories of Dr. Steve Kay at UCSD and the University of Southern California, and Dr. Axel Visel at the DOE-Joint Genome Institute at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
During his graduate and postdoctoral training, Dr. Cole developed a passion for understanding how plants behave when encountering environmental challenges such as vegetative shade, diurnal fluctuations in light or temperature, drought, or when interacting with microorganisms in the soil. These responses range from phenotypic modifications to their growth and architecture, to modulation of whole plant transcriptomes.
