Distintas especies de<em&gt; Leishmania,</em&gt; Un protozoo parásito de la familia<em&gt; Trypanosomatidae</em&gt;, Suelen causar diferentes manifestaciones de la enfermedad humana. Las formas más comunes de la enfermedad son la leishmaniasis visceral (LV) y la leishmaniasis cutánea (LC). Los modelos de ratón de la leishmaniasis son ampliamente utilizados, pero la cuantificación de la carga de parásitos durante la enfermedad requiere murino ratones que ser sacrificados en varias ocasiones después de la infección.
