Renal Section,
Department of Medicine
I entered medical school through a highly competitive matriculation process overseas. I successfully graduated as the top student, and in the continuum, toward my goal, I embarked on the first-ranked integrated five-year general and vascular surgery residency program, where I graduated with the highest honor in the national board exam and research.
Consequently, I started in the top-ranked pediatric surgery subspecialty clinical and research program. I led the first global gastrointestinal birth defect registry in collaboration with king’s college, London, England. The work was published in The Lancet(Global PaedSurg Research Collaboration. Lancet. 2021 Jul 24;398(10297):325-339. doi: 10.1016/S0140-6736(21)00767-4. Epub 2021 Jul 13. PMID: 34270932; PMCID: PMC8314066)
Considering my salient achievements as the youngest double board-certified surgeon in the country and grant applicant, I won the travel award as a visiting scholar at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada, in June 2019. Consequently, I joined the department of renal and vascular research at Boston University in October 2019 and subsequently was promoted to the research scientist position in February 2021. According to my work in vascular research, I was granted a strategically focused research fellowship by American Heart Association in July 2021 to continue my work at Boston Medical Center.
Since I joined Boston University in 2019, I have contributed to the publication of five seminal papers and more accepted for publications, 1. Lotfollahzadeh S, Lo D, York EA, et al. Pharmacologic Manipulation of Late SV40 Factor Suppresses Wnt Signaling and Inhibits Growth of Allogeneic and Syngeneic Colon Cancer Xenografts [published online ahead of print, 2022 Jun 13]. Am J Pathol. 2022; S0002-9440(22)00170-5. 2. (Arinze et al., J Clin Invest. 2022; 3. Walker et al., J Am Soc Nephrol. 2021; 4. Amraei R et al., Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A. 2022). 5. Edward Hartsough et al. iscence, July 2022, PRMT4 Mediated Arginine Methylation Promotes Tyrosine Phosphorylation of VEGFR-2 and Regulates Filopodia Protrusions
Moreover, according to my passion for innovative animal models, I have developed a novel rodent model to optimize peritoneal catheters, which has been recently published in the Journal of Visual Experiments. Additionally, I took the lead in collaborative research work with the department of biomedical engineering at Boston University to optimize and validate the application of animal models for spectroscopy in renal fibrosis.
Furthermore, I have cultivated my knowledge background in Surgery and contributed as the director and managing editor for continuous medical education to make the dream of available global education for medical students and medical professionals come true.
