Isolation and Cultivation of Adult Rat Cardiomyocytes
Franziska Nippert 1, Rolf Schreckenberg 1, Klaus-Dieter Schlüter 1
1Institute of Physiology, Justus Liebig University Giessen

Here, we present a protocol for the isolation and cultivation of adult rat ventricular cardiomyocytes (ARVC). Isolated ARVC can be used for short and long-term cultivation. The isolation and cultivation of ARVC can play a key role in developing new treatment regimens for cardiac diseases.

Analysis of Complex Molecules and Their Reactions on Surfaces by Means of Cluster-Induced Desorption/Ionization Mass Spectrometry
Karolin Bomhardt *1, Pascal Schneider *1, André Portz 1, Christoph R. Gebhardt 2, Michael Dürr 1
1Institute of Applied Physics and Center for Materials Research (LaMa), Justus Liebig University Giessen, 2Bruker Daltonik GmbH

Neutral SO2 clusters of low kinetic energy (< 0.8 eV/constituent) are used to desorb complex surface molecules such as peptides or lipids for further analysis by means of mass spectrometry using an ion trap mass spectrometer. No special sample preparation is required, and real-time observation of reactions is possible.

When we grasp an object, multiple regions of the fingers and hand typically make contact with the object's surface. Reconstructing such contact regions is challenging. Here, we present a method for approximately estimating the contact regions by combining marker-based motion capture with existing deep learning-based hand mesh reconstruction.

In Vitro Chemical Mapping of G-Quadruplex DNA Structures by Bis-3-Chloropiperidines
Alice Sosic 1, Cristina Dal Lago 1, Richard Göttlich 2, Barbara Gatto 1
1Department of Pharmaceutical and Pharmacological Sciences, University of Padova, 2Institute of Organic Chemistry, Justus Liebig University Giessen

Bis-3-chloropiperidines (B-CePs) are useful chemical probes to identify and characterize G-quadruplex structures in DNA templates in vitro. This protocol details the procedure to perform probing reactions with B-CePs and to resolve reaction products by high-resolution polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis.
