Jaeyub Chung is a graduate student in the Charles D. Davidson School of Chemical Engineering, Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, USA, working on his Ph.D. since 2015. He received his undergraduate chemical and biological engineering degree with honors from Seoul National University in the South Korea in 2010.
His scientific interests have included the engineering of nanoporous materials (e.g., metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and zeolites) for advanced molecular separation applications by analyzing and understanding their physical chemistry. His Ph.D. thesis focuses on studying physical chemistry and engineering of aqueous surfactant/polymer formulations that are used for displacing and recovering oil from mature oil fields, which have previously been treated by aqueous salt solutions.
Certain unique results involve the determination of equilibrium surface tension values of air/water interfaces and equilibrium interfacial tension values of oil/water interfaces from dynamic surface and interfacial tension measurements. He has also studied the phase and rheological behavior of oil/aqueous surfactant mixtures and their links to the interfacial tension behavior. He has co-authored six refereed journal publications from 2012 to 2019, and he has given seven oral presentations at national and international conferences from 2017 to July 2019.
