My name is Yana and I am a pharmacist. After graduating from medical school at Ben Gurion University, I worked for 3 years as a pharmacist. Through the passing years, I felt my passion for science increasing, so when an opportunity presented itself I decided to perused my master's degree.
I have completed my master’s degree at the faculty of medicine of Bar-Ilan University, under the supervision of Dr. Nir Qvit.
During my master’s degree, I gained experience in a vast range of molecular and biological methods.
The core area of my project focused on elucidating mitochondrial PPIs and investigating their role in cardiovascular diseases. I discovered a novel interaction between two mitochondrial proteins and synthesized a peptide modulator specific for this interaction using rational design. I found that the peptide exhibited a cardioprotective effect in H9C2 cell lines, and the peptide was found safe in in-vivo rat models.
