I am a Research Associate working in Dr. Kapil Bharti's laboratory Occular and Stem Cell Translational Research. This lab is a part of NEI/NIH and I have been in this lab for more than 7 years. By degree, I'm a molecular biologist. I work in the lab on various projects which use stem cell derived retinal pigment epithelial cells for in-vitro disease modelling. We study the molecular mechanisms underlying many retinal degenerative diseases like Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD), Late Onset Retinal Degeneration (L-ORD), Stargardt retinal degeneration and ROSAH Syndrome. The primary techniques which I use for these projects are stem cell differentiation (Bharti lab protocol), flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, protein analysis by Western Blot and ELISA and gene expression by RT-PCR.
