RESEARCH ACTIVITY

My field of research is Reproductive and Developmental Biology. Within this area, I developed a special interest on oocyte biology and the mechanisms controlling the oocyte to embryo transition. I strongly believe that a deeper knowledge of the mechanisms controlling oocyte nuclear reprogramming into a totipotent cell will improve the current approach to treat female infertility, while also impacting regenerative medicine. Given the difficulties in using human oocytes and embryos for research, and the fact that these cells cannot be propagated in culture, my research is mainly conducted on animal models.
