Gemma Pearson is a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Michigan, in Ann Arbor. She graduated with a Bachelor of Medical Science(Honors) from the University of Technology, Sydney in Sydney, Australia in 2007. She completed her doctoral studies in 2014, obtaining a PhD from UNSW Australia with a thesis investigating the role(s) of lipid species on pancreatic beta-cell function. Since 2015 she has been a postdoctoral fellow in the Soleimanpour laboratory at the University of Michigan. Her post-doctoral studies have focused on mitochondrial metabolism, and turnover in beta-cells, resulting in an interest in pancreatic beta-cell mitochondrial quality control mechanisms and their role in diabetes pathogenesis.

She endeavors to continue learning about the biology of beta-cells in the hopes of progressing towards a comprehensive understanding of beta-cell function to further diabetes research efforts.
