Dr. Thomas Brickler is presently a postdoctoral fellow at Stanford University. Brickler began his research career as a Biology major at Bowdoin College, in Brunswick, ME. With a strong desire to better understand the clinical potential of stem cells, Brickler furthered his knowledge and accepted a position to work at the Harvard Stem Cell Institute, in Cambridge, MA. While at Harvard University, he specialized in reprogramming patient fibroblast and blood cells into induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). Brickler then pursued a graduate degree in stem cell biology and CNS injury. As part of the inaugural Ph.D. program in Regenerative Medicine at Virginia Tech University, in Blacksburg, VA., Brickler's research focused on the neurovascular response after traumatic brain injury in a genetic knock-out model, under Dr. Michelle Theus. Following graduate school, he decided to pursue a postdoctoral position in the laboratory of Dr. Sundari Chetty at Stanford University, Stanford, CA. Currently, his research focuses on using neural precursor cells (NPCs) derived iPSCs from patients with neuropsychiatric disorders. He is driven in understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms of neural cells in neuropsychiatric diseases.
