Sapana Shedge is a postdoctoral research scholar in the School of Natural Sciences at the University of California, Merced. She received her undergraduate degree in Chemistry and a masters’ degree in Physical Chemistry from the University of Pune, Maharashtra, India. She pursued her research work in the National Chemical Laboratory of India, Pune, and received a Ph.D. degree in 2012. She then moved to the University of Geneva as a postdoctoral research scholar.
Sapana’s primary research interest lies in developing computational methods for studying electric response properties and optical properties of organic molecules and solvated dyes. During her Ph.D., Sapana worked on the development and implantation of a numerical-analytical method for computing electric response properties of molecules in the deMon2k software package. During her postdoctoral research in Geneva, she got interested in studying the effect of the environment on spectroscopic properties of organic molecules using a multi-level simulation method. Building on her previous experience and interest, she is currently is working on studying the influence of explicit solute-solvent interactions and coupling of the electronic excitations to nuclear vibrations on the absorption line shapes of the chromophore in neat and ionic solvents.
