Al Hassanein is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Indiana University. He is a plastic surgeon who specializes in cancer and lymphedema microsurgical reconstruction. Dr. Hassanein trained in plastic surgery at Harvard and completed a clinical microsurgery fellowship at Johns Hopkins. He went to medical school at the University of Illinois and completed a general surgery residency at the University of California San Diego. He also did a 2-year research fellowship at Boston Children's Hospital concurrent with a Master's in Clinical and Translational Research at Harvard Medical School. At Indiana University, Dr. Hassanein has a laboratory focused on novel, gene-based strategies to manage lymphedema.
