Laboratoire de Chimie Agro-industrielle (LCA)
Antoine Rouilly is an associate professor in Toulouse University and does his research work in the Laboratory of Industrial Chemistry. He is since 2014 the scientific head of one of the lab topic “Biopolymer Processing”, gathering the work of a team of 5 permanent research staffs and 5-10 PhD and Master students. He studied organic chemistry Toulouse, and graduated in 1998 with Degree of Chemical Engineer (BSc) at the École Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Toulouse (ENSCT). He obtained his Ph.D. in 2002 from the Toulouse University, with a thesis on the injection-molding of two specific agricultural by-products : sunflower oilcake and sugar beet pulp, performed at the Laboratory of Agro-industrial Chemistry, Toulouse. He obtained his habilitation to supervise researches (HDR) in 2018.
Antoine Rouilly’s scientific interest concerns mainly the processing of biopolymers for non-food applications leading to 100% natural materials called agromaterials. The processes used range from twin-screw extrusion to injection-molding and uniaxial compression. His major scientific question is linked to the biopolymer-water interactions and the state of adsorbed water under temperature and pressure. To improve the properties of agromaterials and better control all the process, he has also worked a lot on physical-chemstry characterization of biopolymers through mechanical, thermal and surface analyses. In the last years, he has been engaged in several national and international research projects and industrial contracts.
His Ph.D. work has been awarded with the “Le Monde” thesis prize in 2002.
