Jeffrey Savas received a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of California, Santa Cruz. He received his Doctor of Philosophy from the New York University School of Medicine and performed his postdoctoral training at The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla California. The Savas Lab opened at Northwestern University in the fall of 2015. We investigate how altered protein turnover contributes to neurodegeneration and impaired neuronal communication during the preclinical stage of AD. We are particularly interested in determining how perturbed proteostasis in axon terminals triggers synaptic dysfunction in the early stage of AD. To achieve these goals, we use biochemistry and chemical biology with mass spectrometry-based proteomic analysis.
