Michael Harte is currently a Senior Lecturer and neuropharmacology researcher in the Division of Pharmacy & Optometry at the University of Manchester, specialising in the development of preclinical models of neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders for the testing of novel compounds for progression to the clinic. Our overall research goal is to develop improved preclinical models to advance our understanding of different CNS diseases and aid in the identification and testing of novel targets to ultimately improve treatment for patients.

Having graduated from University College Dublin with a BSc in Physiology in 1999, he then gained his PhD from University College Dublin (2003):utilising microdialysis to characterise pathways involved in cognitive function. Michael successfully secured a post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Sheffield (2003–2005), and Queens University Belfast (2005–2008) focusing on projects investigating neurochemical and pathological deficits in animal models of schizophrenia. He was appointed as a Lecturer in the School of Pharmacy at the University of Bradford in 2008 and joined Manchester Pharmacy School, University of Manchester as a Lecturer in Drug Action January 2013.
