Die Untersuchung von Protein-Interaktionen in lebenden Zellen ist ein wichtiger Bereich der Forschung, weil die Informationen sowohl Vorteile industrielle Anwendungen sowie Erhöhungen fundamentale biologische Wissen angesammelt. Förster (Fluorescence) Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET) zwischen einem Donor-Molekül in einem elektronisch angeregten Zustand und einem nahe gelegenen Acceptormolekül wurde häufig für Untersuchungen von Protein-Protein-Interaktionen in lebenden Zellen eingesetzt. Die Proteine ​​von Interesse sind mit zwei verschiedenen Arten von fluoreszierenden Sonden markiert und ausgedrückt in biologischen Zellen. Die fluoreszierenden Sonden werden dann angeregt, in der Regel mit Hilfe von Laserlicht und die spektralen Eigenschaften der Fluoreszenzemission, die aus der fluoreszierenden Sonden gesammelt und analysiert.
