Von hungernden S. aureus von freiem Eisen und Ergänzung mit einer minimal manipulierte Form von Hämoglobin zu induzieren wir Wachstum in einer Weise, die völlig abhängig von der Fähigkeit, Hämoglobin binden, zu extrahieren Häm, Häm passieren durch die bakterielle Zellwand und degradieren Häm im Zytoplasma ist. Dieser Test wird für Forscher, die die Mechanismen der hemoglobin-/heme-derived Eisenaufnahme in S. aufzuklären nützlich aureus und möglicherweise auch andere bakterielle Erreger.

Wir haben gereinigtes humanes Hämoglobin aus Hämolysat mit HPLC (Protocol Schritt 1,7). Abbildung 1 zeigt aufgezeichnete Absorption des Eluats bei 280 und 410 nm Wellenlänge.
