Unter den am weitesten verbreiteten und auch schwerwiegendsten Form der menschlichen Geburtsfehler sind diejenigen den Mund und Gesicht, zu beeinflussen, wie Gesichtsspalten ein. Kinder mit missgebildeten orofazialen Strukturen durchlaufen mehrere Operationen über deren gesamte Lebensdauer und Kampf mit Gesichtsanomalien, Sprache, Gehör und Essstörungen. Deshalb werden neue Forschung in cranio und orofazialen Entwicklung erleichtert ist ausschlaggebend für die Vorbeugung und Behandlung dieser Art von Geburtsschäden beim Menschen. Xenopus laevis wurde als neues Werkzeug zum Präparieren der Mechanismen, die kraniofazialen Entwicklung entstanden (einige Beispiele sind 2,3,4 -11). Daher könnte eine quantitative Methode, um Größe und Form Veränderungen während der Entwicklung des Kopfes und Gesicht dieser Art zu analysieren sehr leistungsfähige 3 sein. Hier stellen wir ein solches Verfahren; Kombination von traditionellen Größenmessungen mit geometrischen Morphometrie von einer Xenopus-Studie 12 angepasst </sup&gt; und eine Fülle von Studien zur Analyse menschlichen Gesichtsform 13-15. Wir zeigen, dass dieses Protokoll über Xenopus laevis Embryonen mit einer Retinsäure-Rezeptor-Inhibitor, abnormen orofazialen Entwicklung und eine mediane Gaumenspalte 2,3 induziert behandelt. Quantifizierung der Abmessungen und der Form des orofacial Region in diesen Embryonen wurde Veränderungen im Mittelgesicht, die analog zu den Menschen mit ähnlichen Gaumenspalten und Mausmodellen 20,21 ist offenbart. Jedoch kann dieses Protokoll verwendet werden, um die Wirkungen von anderen Verbindungen auf orofacial Entwicklung, wie natürliche Stoffe, Herbizide, oder Proteinen, wie Wachstumsfaktoren zu beurteilen.
